Smell that??? THAT is the smell of a rotten baby. R-O-T-T-E-N. They are ALL spoiled…. but this one is clearly ROTTEN! This one refuses to sleep all night in his crib. Sure… he goes to sleep in his crib, but I can’t remember the last time he actually WOKE UP in his crib. He seems to like the comfort of mommy & daddy’s bed. On average, he wakes up crying somewhere around 4:00am, but lately it’s gotten even earlier. He has trained me to RUN and get him, otherwise he will stand up, toss his paci to the floor, hang over the side of the crib and WAIL, until he is succeeds at waking up his brothers. It is just pitiful the act he puts on…. quite convincing and heartbreaking at the same time.
I am at a loss on how to fix this. We don’t have a choice but to keep the babies together in one room. If I bring him back to our bed, he goes right back to sleep, as does the rest of the household. I can not start my day at 4:00am, so you can see how this got started. I have tried to let him cry it out, but ultimately he wakes somebody up…. usually LUKE. You don’t want to wake Luke up…. oh no….. not LUKE. Luke has the loudest cry of all the babies and he doesn’t go right back to sleep. Believe me, we’ve tried. On more than one occasion we have had 2 little guests in bed with us, and it usually turns into play time. Last night at one point they were both with us, and I managed to return a sleeping Luke to his crib after about an hour. Unfortunately an hour after that, he woke up again. Luke & I ended up in the guest room while Matt & Aidan stayed in our bed. (Have I mentioned how well our precious Liam sleeps? Sure, we call him Cannibal Hannibal, but at least he sleeps!!!)
What puzzles me about this, is that Aidan will go to sleep in his crib at nap time, and at bedtime, very easily. He doesn’t fuss at all, and falls asleep quickly. However, he NEVER wakes up in his crib happy, like the other 2 do. Luke & Liam will wake up and ‘talk’ and play. Aidan wakes up crying. The only time he wakes up happy is when he wakes up in my bed. {sigh} We’ve created a monster!
I’m convinced that sleep is a luxury item at our house. You don’t get a full night’s sleep around here…. EVER. Honestly, I can’t remember the last night I actually slept all night long, uninterrupted. No kidding! My precious, sweet, little, chubby, snuggly baby has learned to buck the system. Smart little man he is!
Like I said….. ROTTEN!
Any suggestions???

April 19, 2009 at 5:53 amTwo words: Crib Tents! We tented our boys after they started climbing out of their cribs, but then realized the added benefit- they keep all things inside, not just the baby! No more pacies thrown on the floor= much better sleep for us all. The love their tents! Oh, and here are two more words: Ear Plugs! Or is that one word? 😉

April 19, 2009 at 5:55 pmI agree CRIB TENTS!!! However, it won’t keep him from crying 🙂 Dominic went through a phase where he would wake up, stand up and scream to be covered with his blankie. It got really old after a week. Finally we let him cry it out. Finally after another week he stopped. I’ve used CIO on all 3 and it sucks to have to keep yourself from going in there, but in the end it works itself out. good luck Michelle!
