This morning I took the littles on our Friday morning field trip to Target. I had several items on my list this week (free jeans!), so we got an early start. I was smart this time, and didn’t feed them breakfast beforehand. At least for the first few minutes in the stroller, they were busy eating. I packed donuts, so they were happy! We always have to stop at the $1 spot first and get some sort of a toy for them to hold, which also helps. They really like the little emergency vehicles with the sirens (I think we have 12 of them now!!!). After eating, Liam was being a bit of a pill, but the other 2 were pretty good. Unfortunately they spotted the Timmy toys on the endcap as I made my way around a corner. I picked up the medium sized Timmy and made the mistake of squeezing his hand. This particular Timmy makes the whiney “baaaaahhhh” sound. I wasn’t about to purchase 3 Timmy’s at $15 each today, so instead I picked up the smaller ones… one Timmy, the cat, and the duck. These were still $6 each, but more tolerable to my checkbook. Of course, the first thing Liam did was squeeze the Timmy, and he immediately started crying that it was ‘broke’. That’s what set him off. I tried everything to get him to STOP CRYING, but nothing was working.
I finally spotted some bubbles on another endcap, and thought I would make one final attempt to make him happy. These weren’t just ordinary bubbles… these were COLORED bubbles, made by Crayola. How fun would that be? In fact, this intrigued all three of them to the point that they gave me back the Timmy toys. (The bubbles were only $3, so I was making money on this deal.) Liam picked green, Luke picked blue, and Aidan picked purple. I was actually pretty excited about these colored bubbles… I mean, how smart of an idea was that? Aside from them wanting to open them immediately, I was able to finish my shopping in peace.
When we got back home, they immediately wanted to go play with their bubbles. I had something I needed to do in the kitchen anyway, so I let them go out on the back patio and play. I opened Liam’s bottle for him first. The wand is attached to the lid, so it makes it easy for small hands to hold. Plus, the bottle says it’s spill-resistant, which sounded great, in theory.
I really wish that I had taken a picture of these bottles before they played with them, but I hadn’t anticipated a blog post coming from them at the time!!!
I handed Liam his prize and he pulled the wand out, blew on it, and wa-lah! Green bubbles!!! Weeeeee!!!
Good thing Crayola is non-toxic, right?
As time went on…. things got worse. MUCH worse….
I may as well have bought them PAINT!!!
I have no words…
Pictures don’t even do this mess justice…
Scary Liam…. just scary…
Matt would likely have had a stroke, had he seen this…
I had to bring them in one at a time, and only after taking off their shoes and stripping them first! Naturally the other 2 decided to make things even more interesting…
