Our littles are growing up… {sniff}…
You might notice that the crib tents are gone. Yep… they finally destroyed them to the point of no return. Honestly if they hadn’t, I wouldn’t be writing this particular post right now, as they would still be sleeping peacefully ALL NIGHT in their cribs. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, and it hasn’t been for a few months now.
In fact, Matt and I have spent the last few months waking up with THIS in between us…
You see how far THAT got me.
We are now the proud owners of triple bunk beds. I was nervous about it at first, but on the other hand, they have been climbing up and down Noah & Eli’s bunk beds for a long time now (against the rules, but what do you do???). They’ve also been climbing over the baby gate(s), and let’s not forget how they were flying between and over the cribs.
They are pretty cool, I must admit. Plus, there are 6 drawers under the bottom bunk, and another 6 on the right side, supporting the 2nd top bunk. This made for a smart use of space, as we didn’t have to buy a dresser. (One of the biggest challenges for me, with 3 boys in one room, is storing their CLOTHES.)
They were very excited about them, as you could tell from the picture. However, the first night ended something like this…
That’s my inflatable mattress on the floor. They call it ‘mommy’s bed’. In their defense, the first night was a little chaotic as they went to bed late. I had to run all over town to find a bed rail for the bottom bunk, Matt was working late, etc.
One out of 3 for the first night ain’t bad, right?
We’ve had them for about two weeks now, and they are doing great with them! Liam is still a bit hesitant to sleep up top. He’s the first one to climb up and play on the top bunk during the day, but sometimes at night it’s a different story. Luke has chosen the bottom bunk as ‘his’ bed. However, some nights he asks to sleep up in Liam’s bed. Aidan is the only one that has consistently slept in his own bed (also up top), but there have been a couple of nights where he’s slept on ‘mommy’s bed’. (Yes, the inflatable mattress is still there today.) Regardless which bed they start out on, or end up in, they are actually sleeping MUCH better. Yes, I am still laying with them until they fall asleep every night, but I can deal with that. We do still have the occasional middle-of-the-night wake up, but NOTHING like before, and most of the time they go right back to sleep. Night time is still a work-in-progress, but we’re getting there!
I did, however, wake up in a bunk bed this morning.
