Our backyard has an awesome outdoor kitchen in it. It has a built in grill, a stove-top burner, a sink, and even a refrigerator. It’s great for entertaining…. well… it would be, anyway! (Entertaining? Rrrriiiiiiiiiiiggghhht. Maybe again in a few years.) We use the grill all the time though. We entertain ourselves these days.
Another great feature of this outdoor living space is that it is set up on a big stone patio. If you’ve seen any of my outdoor pictures with the ‘littles’ playing, I’m sure you’ve seen that this is a prime play area for them. They have their picnic table there, and there is a built in bench that I usually perch myself on. It’s a great place to ride their bikes, play with the trains and cars… you name it. Long story short, we spend a lot of time there.
We were outside playing yesterday afternoon, just as we usually are after we pick up N&E from school. I had to run inside for something… not even sure what it was at this point, but I left them, nonetheless. I didn’t go any farther than the kitchen, and the back doors were wide open… shouldn’t be that big of a deal, right? In the minute or two I left my perch, the ‘littles’ discovered a feature on the grill that was new to me.
DRAWERS. Well, I guess they are meant to catch drippings or something along those lines. They open up like drawers, anyway. Unfortunately they fill up with WATER, I’m guessing from the rain. Yes, WATER. Nasty, dirty, full of charred-grill-junk water, indeed.
Not only did I come back to find a disgusting, dirty, wet, patio… I had two out of three short people that smelled like an over-cooked, charred, brisket. (I am not a fan of brisket, btw… I don’t like fatty, stringy meat… but I digress).
