Today couldn’t get here fast enough!!! Noah & Eli went back to school after being out on track break for over 3 weeks. I knew it was time yesterday, when Eli told me that ‘it wasn’t his fault that I had triplets’. He was mad at me because I scolded him for throwing the babies around like a sack of potatoes. We’ve been ‘discussing’ this for a few weeks now. Now that the babies are getting bigger and either walking or pushing walkers, their big brothers seem to think they are invincible. Any more time off would probably lead to a call to Super Nanny. [In all seriousness, I would never, EVER, apply for this show because I KNOW they would come!]
The last 3+ weeks have been, dare I say, boring, around here. I haven’t had many excuses to leave the house, so I haven’t. Prior to Aidan’s accident and our daily trips to the lovely burn center, I don’t think we ever left the house during the week. I even had my groceries delivered! This brings good things and bad things. The babies have been able to take their 2 naps a day without interruption (other than the noise their big brothers make). We haven’t been exposed to all the ‘germs’ out there, other than what Matt brings home from the office. (I am deathly afraid of stomach viruses, and have a panic attack every time I read my friends’ Facebook posts about them running rampant through their houses!) I’ve kept my butt out of the McDonald’s & Starbucks drive-thru…. all positives (well, maybe not the Starbucks part)! On the flip side, I am tired of looking at the same walls and could use some fresh air. Noah & Eli, despite their vacation with Daddy to Legoland, have been climbing the walls & fighting daily, and have spent a LOT more time in ‘time-out’ lately. My ‘no yell’ New Year’s resolution has been tested… and broken. Yes, it’s time to go back to normal… at least normal for us.
My morning started out at 6:30am, after a night full of fun with waking babies. I swear I think they are trying to kill me sometimes. Aidan slept in our bed last night, but I can’t remember what time he got there (Matt brought him to me). I think he slept sideways and of course my ribs got his feet. I would have been thrilled to get to sleep until 6:30 had I not been up all through the night…. again! I don’t even remember if it was Luke or Liam, or both. Scary. What I would give for a night of uninterrupted sleep. I fed the babies their breakfast, changed diapers, took out the trash, vacuumed the floor since I was too tired to do it last night, roosted the big boys, unloaded backpacks from 3+ weeks ago (I am such a good mom), brushed my teeth and threw on some clothes. I didn’t care what my hair looked like. I loaded the car baby-by-baby, did a final count before we pulled out, and away we went to school. It was 8:25, and the tardy bell rings at 8:55. Noah & Eli like to get to school as close to 8:30 as possible because they get to play on the playground until 8:45 (the first bell). School starts later here than in Texas. I haven’t decided if that’s a good thing yet or not. I successfully dropped off the boys with plenty of time to play, and the babies & I headed home.
I was watching the babies in the rear-view mirror as I drove home trying to make sure they didn’t fall asleep. Prior to the break from school I was having a problem with them falling asleep before we got home, and then they didn’t want to take their morning nap. This translates into no shower for mommy, so I was doing everything I could to keep them awake. Today they didn’t seem as drowsy, and I am guessing their new car seats have something to do with it. I let them play for a few minutes after we got home then put them down for their nap around 9. I had just enough time to take a shower and dry my hair before Aidan woke up. Go figure. Eli is in 1/2 day kindergarten (HATE it) so he is only in school for 2 1/2 hours. He gets out at 11:25. Luke & Liam woke up just in time to load up the car and make our 2nd trip to the school. When we got home I put the babies into their high chairs and fed everyone lunch. I didn’t go to McDonalds… I am so proud of myself! (However, I’m not sure the dino nuggets I ate for lunch did me any favors either.) Eli played with the babies while I cleaned up the kitchen from my morning mess and unloaded & re-loaded the dishwasher. I was watching the clock trying to figure out how quickly I could put the babies back down for an afternoon nap before going back to the school to pick up Noah. I put them down somewhere between 1:30 and 1:45 so they would have an hour before we had to load the car again. They were NOT ready, and put up a fight, but eventually fell asleep. Of course Aidan was up within 30 minutes.
We loaded the car for the 3rd time around 2:45 and set out to pick up Noah. He gets out at 3:06. We came straight home and played for awhile. The babies were ready for dinner at 4:30, their usual time. They’ve been cranky this evening, probably because they are tired, and we’re off our schedule that we had perfected during our track break. Liam has started throwing what I consider temper tantrums when he doesn’t get his way. Yesterday he actually busted my lip with his head. He literally throws himself backwards. I don’t remember tantrums at one. He bites too, but Aidan started that and now Luke is even learning. I’ve also never had a biting child, and now I have 3. We did bottles a little after 6 and I had them in bed by 7.
Somewhere in between all my shuttle services I managed to push a load of laundry through, catch up on Facebook, and of course, BLOG! We’ll see if I can get through American Idol before they wake up!!!
Until tomorrow……
