Last week we officially transitioned the babies out of their infant seats and into big boy chairs. Poor Aidan’s been over the weight limit for a couple of months now. Not by much, but still over. We’ve had it so easy up until now (relatively speaking), popping their infant seats out of the car and snapping them onto the stroller. I’ve been able to load them all up inside and then carry them out one by one to the car. Since the big boys have been out of school, we haven’t left the house much. In fact, my trip to the burn center yesterday was the first time I’ve taken them out by myself since we made the change. It takes a bit longer, and I have to take them one at a time, but it works. There is no room in the car now that we have to pack the stroller seats along with the frame. We learned this the hard way since the first place we took them in their new seats was Costco. We must have looked like the Beverly Hillbillies the way things were crammed between kids. With the transition, we went ahead and turned them around. They’re legal now! They do like facing forward……
We set Luke & Liam up in the 3rd row and put Aidan in the middle row. He tends to be the most high maintenance in the car so he rides next to Noah & Eli. This is still up in the air for me because the past 2 days Liam has thrown his paci & blanket onto the floor in traffic and screamed the rest of the way. I am seriously thinking of looking for one of those long stick things with the hand grabber on the end. (I swear I won’t use it while driving, but it would be nice to have at stoplights!) Unfortunately Noah & Eli have to sit next to each other, which isn’t pretty. We tried to put 2 of these carseats in the 2nd row, but they are so wide it won’t allow the seat to fold down for access to the 3rd row. One thing for sure, the addition of triplets certainly narrows down your vehicle selection. Matt said the other day that Jon & Kate’s van is sure ugly to look at, but he can see how it’s functional. For now I’m digging in my heels. I’m already driving a bus. Please don’t make me go there!!!
We had a much easier time at the burn center today. Our appointment was at 10:30 this morning and they were much more organized and much less busy. We were able to leave the bandage off of Aidan’s right hand, which has helped me tremendously today. The poor guy was probably starving not being able to feed himself. His right wrist still has a small bandage, and the left hand is still completely covered, but he is getting better. Tomorrow we actually see the burn center doctor, and I am hoping we can stop this every day truck across town. It could get dicey since the boys go back to school on Tuesday and my chaotic commuting schedule starts back up again. (That’s when I will hate the new carseats…. loading & unloading them 3 times a day is not going to be fun!)
Matt & the big boys made it to Lego Land today, and are actually on their way home tonight! I wasn’t expecting them until tomorrow so it was a nice surprise. They had a great time on their vacation. Don’t they look happy?
